When cooked, Velvet Pioppini mushrooms have a faint floral aroma and are meaty and crunchy with a nutty, slightly sweet, peppery, and earthy flavor.
Also known as the Black Poplar mushroom
Once cooked, this mushroom will gain a slight crispiness to its texture. The flavor is mild but earthy and nutty. This mushroom goes well in rice, risotto, or stir fry dishes. In Asia, this mushroom is used frequently in soups, stews, and hot pot.
The caps are dark chocolate brown with a soft/silky texture. The creamy stems have a texture similar to asparagus.
The Pioppino Mushroom is also known for its potential to slow down the negative effects of osteoporosis. Nutritionally, Pioppino mushrooms contain a number of antioxidants which protect against diseases and prevent early aging. They are also high in vitamins and minerals such as B vitamins, copper, and potassium.
